Even with today’s announcement of the nForce 790i chipset, it’s anybody’s guess as to when we’ll see them available in large quantities at retail and that gives current motherboard maker’s time to clear out their 780i-based board. While many have choked up the 780i as a simply band-aid to the 680i, it’s still a good-performing chipset with quite a bit of legroom under it and in this review we’ll take a stab at two of the current leaders from ASUS and XFX.

ASUS’ republic of gamer’s products have built a solid reputation as being some of the finest available motherboards available. ASUS typically pulls out all the stops on these boards in an effort to cater specifically to the desires of gamers for extreme overclocking, stability and performance.

With the Striker II, ASUS hops on the 780i chipset bandwagon and presents a fairly decent solution which does have a couple of drawbacks.
