Gateway computer company has been around about as long as I can remember – originally based in Souix City Iowa, the company’s HQ is now in Irvine California. Times have change, technology has changed a lot but its logo and commitment to producing affordable, quality PCs hasn’t. It’s under that mantra that its FX line of gaming PCs hit the market last year with the herculean Intel Corei7 processors.

We’ve been running this FX-6800-01e system for a while now – as I wanted to get more of a longer “test drive” impression with it rather than a simple quick-over.

The FX6800 series are available in a wide variety of configurations - which means you can pretty easily get a system configured pretty well for your particular budget and performance desires. Our test system was configured with the following:a Corei7-920 CPU clocked at 2.66GHz, Radeon 4850 graphics card, 3GB of  DDR3 RAM @ 1066MHz, Intel X58 motherboard, on-board audio, 18x DVD+/- Multidrive, a 56k modem (yeah, right, who uses a modem anymore?), 750GB Seagate hard drive, Vista Ultimate 64bit edition, mid-tower, keyboard, mouse and a stellar 24-inch LCD monitor.
