Throughout its history, Seagate Technology has been a pioneer in the business-class / enterprise hard drive market and has done a brilliant job in its execution of drives which continue to dominate that arena. It has been the premier champion of this market because it’s not only critical to its overall success but also a segment that has had an excellent growth curve.

It’s to that end, that Seagate has recently released its “Constellation” drive which fits into the 2.5-inch form-factor. These new drives bring about some really nice technological advantages over their previous-generation, larger drives.

One can see, from looking over its list of key features, that Seagate has aimed this drive squarely as a server-class solution for those that need the highest capacities in a 2.5-inch drive – these include:

-    Either a 3Gb/s SATA or 6Gb/s SAS interface
-    Low power consumption via Seagate’s “PowerChoice” technology
-    SAS units can do “Government-grade” self-encryption of data
-    First 2.5-inch 15mm drive
