Here we are, once again, looking at a new piece of Silicon from NVIDIA who is setting the bar in performance and technology for all others to follow. In short, its new G80 GPU smokes everything else currently out there in overall performance and a host of new features that truly put it in a class of its own.

Right on the cusp of a pending Windows Vista launch, the G80 is the first GPU to support the upcoming DirectX 10 – a Vista-only product – and that promises an entire new level of realism and game detail previously unavailable.

NVIDIA knows to stay on top of the game in the GPU market it needed to be first with a DX10 part and to have the best-performing implementation of it. While we can’t objectively say at this time it is in deed the best (we still have no R600 to test), we can say with a good level of certainty that AMD has its work cut out for it if it plans on upsetting the G80.
