The Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-950 is one of the latest HDTV enabled products to be released in the line of popular WinTV products from Hauppauge.

Billed as a "hybrid video recorder", the WinTV-HVR-950 is a high-speed USB TV tuner capable of receiving analog TV (or regular TV as most people know it) and over the air ATSC HDTV signals. Keep in mind, this does NOT allow for receiving HDTV through your cable provider, that requires a set-top HDTV box from your cable provider.  Most local stations broadcast HDTV signals over the air so with the HVR-950 you should be able to get your favorite network TV shows in HD quality (up to 1080i). You can also connect your standard cable TV line in here and tune into most of your basic cable channels as well.

Packaging and Initial Impressions
The HVR-950 came well packed and had everything you need to get started right away including a USB extension cable (the device itself is a bit bulky to try and plug into the USB port directly and would occupy at least 2 USB port positions), a quick setup guide, a portable antennae and an installation CD-ROM.  Hauppauge bills this device as being the perfect traveling companion for road warriors but the minimum requirements and CPU loads from decoding HDTV signals makes this device work best if you have a newer laptop with at least a 1.8GHz Centrino or equivalent and 64MB of video memory.
