Even though the GTS line has been out for quite awhile now there’s hardly been a better time to buy one as it represents one of the best values going right now in the graphics card market. XFX has capitalized on this platform with wreckless abandon using its GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB card which is in ample supply and comes with its infamous “Double Lifetime” warranty.

One of the reason for the GTS success is that its combines a very robust GPU – one that has 96 stream processors in it – ample amounts of on-board RAM (320 or 640) and overclocks very nicely. In fact, in its default clock stages it still outperforms two 8600GTS cards in SLI under most circumstances.

XFX offers its 640MB version of the GTS in two different variations; one clocked at the default 580GHz core and 1300MHz memory – and a “XXX” version (the model we’re testing) which clocks out at 600MHz/1900MHz respectively. Even at its default clock rate on the non-“XXX” version, the GTS is a very formidable force in graphics right now and has no problems passing up its competition from AMD under most current games.
