There’s nothing quite like holding a competitive edge in the technology sector, especially when that edge comes in the way of best of class performance, power-usage and pricing. Intel’s Core 2 Duo paved the way for a new era of CPUs last year when it debuted and has proved itself to be a good foundation for Intel’s future as evidenced by today’s release of the Yorkfield core CPUs.

Both AMD and Intel have been championing the need for a quad-core desktop CPU, however, to date – only Intel has delivered one and it’s a design philosophy that’s been picking up steam in the game and application software developer world. We now have a slew of games hitting that utilize multi-core CPUs in a way that yields very tangible performance gains. Games such as Crysis and Unreal Tournament 3 (in fact Unreal 3 engine which powers quite a number of games has native multi-core support) are leading the charge as two of the most premier gaming titles to hit this fall and winter season. Thankfully for Intel and consumers, these games do harness the power of having more cores.
