ASUS is back at it again; this time in the pole position of X38-based motherboards with its Maximus Extreme edition which has more bells and whistles on it than a circus side-show. To say this board is “extreme” is to sort of understate just how exhaustive its features are and more importantly, its performance.

We’ve become accustomed to ASUS’ use of heatpipe cooling and extravagant use of its know-how and marketing muscle to churn out motherboards which truly do exemplify their given categories. Nothing, however, has come close (in my eyes) to the form, function and somewhat uniqueness to the Maximus Extreme X38 board. Okay, enough with the hyperbole, let’s get to the meat and potatoes of what makes this board truly kick ass.

Firstly, it uses Intel’s latest X38 chipset and harnesses the provided bandwidth of DDR3 technology which plays itself into being very overclocking friendly and is clearly the future in regards to the path Intel is taking us on with its upcoming Nehalem CPUs – due out next year.
